Choose Your Workshop

All workshops can be adapted to suit any age group. Specially adapted workshops have also been provided to teachers in the form of Inset days or as a staff room activity. We provide all the equipment and material for each workshop which is included in the cost. Please call for prices and availability.

West African Drumming

An interactive workshop using the djembe to teach rhythms. Suitable for all age groups and maximum of thirty in each group.

West African Dance

A lively and fun workshop teaching traditional dance steps from Guinea and Ghana.

Storytelling

Oral stories from around Africa. Our storytellers use props and instruments for a memorable workshop. For older children and teachers a chance to do it yourself. Techniques on storytelling are given.

Toys, Games and Recycling

We make our own recycled toys from scrap materials, whilst looking at an array of toys and games from around Africa.

Textiles

Two workshops are offered, Tie and Dye and Blockprinting. In each we examine a selection of African textiles and then each child produces their own piece of fabric, either based on a traditional design or by producing their own. Older children can design and make their own block prints.

Beads and Jewellery

We look at our collection of jewellery from around Africa and then everybody gets a chance to design their own beads.

Mask Making

We look at a selection of masks and each child makes their own mask based on an original mask or using their imagination.

Clay Pot Making

We teach children how to make and decorate a traditional clay coil pot, used for food and water storage.
