Choose Your Workshop

All workshops can be adapted to suit any age group. Specially adapted workshops have also been provided to teachers in the form of INSET days or as a staff room activity. We provide all the equipment and materials for each workshop. Please call for prices and availability.

West African Drumming

Drumming

A fun and truly hands on workshop. We provide each pupil with a djembe and our master drummers teach traditional rhythms and beats from West Africa.
West African Dancing

Dance

To the accompaniment of the djembe our internationally acclaimed choreographer teaches traditional dances from West Africa. Another fun and lively workshop.
Storytelling

Storytelling

Our professional storytellers entertain pupils with tales from Africa. Older pupils and teachers are taught the techniques of oral storytelling and then have the chance to retell the stories in their own words and style. Props and instruments are provided.
Toys, Games and Recycling

Toys, Games and Recycling

A creative and thought provoking workshop. We look and examine our collection of toys and games gathered from around Africa, each pupil then makes a toy using a variety of different, mainly scrap, materials.
Textiles

Textiles

Two workshops are offered – Tie and Dye or Block Printing. In each we examine our collection of African textiles and then each child decorates their own fabric, either based on a traditional design or by producing their own. Older pupils can design and make their own printing blocks.
Beads and Jewellery

Beads and Jewellery

We examine our collection of beads and jewellery from around Africa, looking at the materials used, patterns and colours. Each pupil then designs and makes their own string of beads.
Mask Making

Mask Making

We have a large collection of masks from around Africa, using these as inspiration each pupil makes and decorates their own mask.
Capoeira

Capoeira

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art initially developed by African slaves. It combines elements of gymnastics with music and dance. This fun and exciting workshop will develop pupil’s co-ordination, rhythm and musicality.
